USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Girard Intermediate School has implemented a Healthy Food for a Happy World school-wide program to promote healthful eating choices.  Students receive instruction on healthy food options of fruits and vegetables and are instructed to eat snacks that meet our school nutrition program guidelines.  Our school-wide program provides guidance and education about the importance of good nutrition to support lifelong healthy eating habits to prevent costly and potentially disabling diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.  Our Healthy Food for a Happy World healthy eating program promotes physical activity with activity focused 'brain breaks' throughout the school day.  Our program has been shared with all stakeholders-students, staff, faculty, parents, and the School Improvement Committee through ongoing communication, school meetings, school newsletters, and classroom weekly folders.

This grant provides a daily snack to every student!
